Sanssouci: A day in the country

We found the world clock after a tour around the communication tower and met Sue and Sandy. Grabbed a group tansport ticket for €16:70. A real steal as it gave us use of all public transport in Berlin and Brandenburg on our way to the summer residence of Frederick the Great, Sanssouci Palace.

Caught a fast train out to Potsdam and a slow bus to the palace. Took in a tour of the place and a visit to the toilet. The latter was only slightly cheaper and the former slightly more interesting.

On the subject of 'spending a penny', when it turns out that you're spending a euro to visit the porcelain palace, you really want to make sure that it's worth it. I must see if there is a dunny app that I can download, that shows the locations of free WCs in Berlin. They make such things for wi-fi. And not everyone needs a wi.

After the palace tour, we did the grounds and then made our way back to the bus stop which was also the location of a little cafe where we had the traditional bratwurst and beer luncheon. The beer was one of those big half litre jobs (you can see that I was planning ahead for my next WC visit).

After lunch, it rained very heavily. We have a saying in Australia to describe this but I refuse to lower myself to the use of toilet humour.

We made a dash from our shelter to the bus and took it to the end of the line. Then caught a tram back to Potsdam where we got onto a bus to get to the station. We caught a slow train back to Berlin and then got another train to Ostbahnhof.

We walked along a section of The Wall, named The East Side Gallery. It won't last long as it spoils the view of the river from all of the new development that is now taking place in the old east section.

We finally caught two more trains to get home.

We revisited our Vietnamese Wraps and Rolls restaurant for Happy Hour, consuming a couple of rice paper rolls, deep fried prawns and small buckets of wine. Anne had a margarita.
